Sand Removal Pump was Delivered to Weihai for River Dredging

Sand removal pump, also know as marine sand pump, is widely used for river dredging work. Sand removal pump has the advantages of high efficiency, long discharge distance and high concentration conveying, stable operation, wear resistance and corrosion resistance. It is mainly used for such working conditions as pumping sand or slurry in the river, lake, sea and reservoir, land reclamation, pumping iron ore, gold sand.

Selection Requirements
The Weihai customer called OCEAN Pump to propose construction requirements for the river dredging treatment plan:

1. It will be used for cutter suction dredger. Previously, they selected OCEAN Pump’s 450 GN-35 sand suction pump, matching with Cummins 1200 hp and 1500 rpm marine engine. And the new sand pump needs to use this engine as well.
2. The discharge distance is 2.5 km. The medium is mud, sand and little garbage. And they also require three blades impeller.

Selection Process
According to our customers’ requirements, our engineer made the selection comparison. Finally, we chose the model of 400 GN-50. Comparing with the previous 450 GN-35 type sand pump machine, 400 GN-50 has advantage and disadvantage. The advantages are high lift, long discharge distance and fast pipeline flow rate. The disadvantage is that the flow is slightly lower and the speed is slightly higher.

16-inch Heavy-duty Sand Dredging Pump was Delivered to Cameroon

Heavy duty sand dredging pump is the compact multifunctional sand pump machine which can be used on the sand dredger or the land for sand or slurry suction and transport. The sand dredge pump features wear resistant parts, large spherical passage impeller, high operational efficiency, wide application,  and energy saving etc. The over-flow parts are made of wear resistant chrome alloy. 16 inch Sand Dredging Pump Selection Background

On March 10th, 2019, a customer from Cameroon called us. He purchased 14-inch sand dredge pump before. And the sand dredge pump had continuously pumped 600,000 cubic meters sand at all. The impeller and other accessories were also worn out. So he hoped that OCEAN Pump could choose a sand dredge pump with a higher output to replace the old pump type.
The requirements are as follows:

1. Pumping sand in the sea, with a depth of 35-40 meters;
2. The sand is clean, but the proportion is large.The gravel is generally angular, so the wear on the pump will be relatively large;
3. The discharge distance is 500 meters, basically no vertical height;

On August 23, 2016, one customer from Henan purchased the 250PNS-35 high wear-resistant alloy sand pumping equipment for the Yellow River dredging. The sand dredging pump was stable for one and a half years and pumped sand 1.5 million cubic meter. Recently, the customer reported that there was water seepage at the sand pump’s back cover and front cover during operation. Our workshop director judged that the back cover and the front cover had wear and tear, and somewhere has been worn through so there was water seepage.  We suggested the customer came to our factory for repair and accessories replacement.

On March 22, 2018, the customer delivered the sand pump unit to our factory. The overhaul process was as follows:

Overhaul for Marine Sand Suction Pump Suction Pipe, Front Cover, Front Guard Plate.

1. It was found that the suction port had a small area of wear. Considering the replacement cost, we repaired and polished with the pig iron electrode. It still could be used for a long time by this way.
2. The front cover has been worn out and has no maintenance value. We recommended to replace it.
3. The outer side of the front plate is thin and grooved, it should be replaced.

Overhaul for Marine Sand Suction Pump Casing and Impeller.

1. There is cavitation above the pump casing , but the pump casing is thicker. Considering the maintenance cost, we recommend to keep it and replace in the next overhaul.
2. The impeller wear is light, there is slight cavitation. We recommend to keep it. If there is wear leakage, it is recommended to replace it.

Overhaul for Marine Sand Suction Pump Rear Guard Plate, Rear Cover and Auxiliary Impeller

The rear cover had a large-area through-hole, and the rear guard plate has been thinned. It has no maintenance value and is recommended to be replaced.

Overhaul for Marine Sand Suction Pump Shaft Assembly.

1. Our engineers judge the bearing are running well through turning detection and axle deviation tester. It does not require to be replaced, but only simple maintenance.

Horizontal Sand Pump was Used for Sand Unloading from Sand Transport Ship

Horizontal sand pump has the characteristics of simple operation, environmental protection, energy saving, high efficiency and durability. Horizontal sand pump is an ideal sand pump type used for sand unloading from sand transport ship. After sand in the field is transported by sand transport ship to the local area, the workers use high pressure water gun to impact the sand, then use horizontal sand pump to transport the high concentration mixture sand and water to the destination.

Sand mining in Jiaxing city was under control by the Government because of environmental protection. But they needed the material of sand and gravel for construction, so they required to buy and transport the sand from other places to the local area. They planed to use conveying belt or small sand pump for sand unloading, but this method was low in efficiency, the conveying distance was short, the equipment damage time was short, and the cost was high. According to the customers’ requirements and actual measurement of the sand transport ship, the technical team of Tai’an Ocean Pump Co.,Ltd.(referred to as Ocean Pump) recommended horizontal sand pump 350PNS-35 for sand unloading.

On April 10, 2018, Jiaxing customers came to Ocean Pump and proposed construction requirements, the speed of unloading sand should be fast, 6-barrel water guns, and the conveying distance ranged from 600m to 1300m. The engineers of Ocean Pump showed the customers the sand unloading plan, that was, to make a new ship, 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump and 350s44 high pressure water pump were arranged in the ship hull, and the hydraulic operation rod was used to move the high pressure water gun and sand suction hose, then realized the sand unloading work. This method was a sand unloading plan jointly developed by Ocean Pump, and Yancheng and Xinghua Shipyard. It has been successfully promoted and operated for a long time in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Huangpu River area.

The customer was very appreciative of this scheme, but they worried about this would increase the cost and delay the construction period. They hoped to realize sand unloading on the dock. Through the construction simulation of the work site, the technical department of Ocean Pump proposed a plan to place a horizontal sand pump on the dock and use the artificial hand-held high-pressure water gun to impact the sand. However, there were several important points to be noted in the operation:

1. The height of the horizontal sand pump should not be too high. The vacuum suction head of the sand dredging pump was limited, if the height was too high, the first was to affect the suction and the production cannot be guaranteed. The second was the cavitation phenomenon, this could cause the horizontal sand pump to be worn so fast; the third was to reduce the head, there was air in the sand suction pump body and the pipeline, so that the resistance was increased and the conveying distance was shortened. It was therefore recommended to achieve backflow or parallel water level.
2. If the conditions in the work site were limited, the place of sand pump machine cannot be lower than the water level, the sand suction pump still could run if it was 2-3m higher than the water level, the premise was injecting water into the sand pump body before turning on. There were two ways to inject water. The first was setting a bottom valve on the suction hose of the horizontal sand pump, turning on the sand and slurry pump after injecting water. The disadvantage was that the bottom valve was seriously worn, the inner rubber pad needed to be replaced frequently. The second was using vacuum pump, which could evacuate the sand pump and pipeline, the suction port position was vacuumed, and the liquid was filled with the horizontal sand pump and the suction pipe. The second solution needed to set a gate valve at the exit, which was relatively simple to operate.
3. When equipped with power and pipeline, it was necessary to consider the actual conditions of the working site. The rated power of the 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump was 200kw, but considering the high concentration sand unloading and long discharge distance, the engineer recommended that the motor was 8 poles, 220kw. Either 315mm or 377mm of pipeline was suitable, the customers could select according to their budget.

After the pre-communication, the customer selected the scheme of 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump with SK-0.2/2.2kw vacuum pump. This type of sand pump was sufficient in stock, so the sand pumping equipment was quickly assembled and delivered to the work site.
