What kind of suction dredge pumps are suitable for inland river dredging? Followed are some suggestions.

Inland river is different from large river and sea. There are large particles or twining solids such as mixed garbages, weed, bricks; Mud is more than sand, it may dry up in summer.

At present, cutter suction dredgers is often equipped with suction dredge pumps and vertical sand pump units, the cutter suction dredgers can be used with excavator ships for inland river dredging. Besides this, there are other methods for inland river dredging.

1. For a dry river, there is no water source nearby, excavator or artificial way is suitable but not sand pump. This method is time-consuming and laborious. The working efficiency is lower.

2. The river water is very shallow. Vertical suction dredge pumps equipped with high pressure water gun are a better choice. It has the features of easy operation, high suction concentration, high efficiency, thorough cleaning up. The disadvantages are that it needs manual operation and the discharge distance is not so long.  If the conveying distance is long, horizontal suction dredge pumps can be used as booster pumps. The sand extracted by several vertical suction dredge pumps gathers to one horizontal sand pump, then is conveyed to discharge destination.

3. When the river has sufficient water supply, a variety of sand pumping equipment can be used in conjunction with each other. If there are a lot of weeds in the river, the mowing boat can clean up the weeds at first, then the cutter suction dredger cleaning up sediment and stones. The big particle gravel sand pumps are suitable to be equipped on the cutter suction dredgers, because the large particle suction dredge pumps have the characteristics of wide channel, non blockage, strong wear resistance. The largest particle diameter allowed to pass is 20cm, it is the best choice for this working condition.

Horizontal Sand Pump was Used for Sand Unloading from Sand Transport Ship

Horizontal sand pump has the characteristics of simple operation, environmental protection, energy saving, high efficiency and durability. Horizontal sand pump is an ideal sand pump type used for sand unloading from sand transport ship. After sand in the field is transported by sand transport ship to the local area, the workers use high pressure water gun to impact the sand, then use horizontal sand pump to transport the high concentration mixture sand and water to the destination.

Sand mining in Jiaxing city was under control by the Government because of environmental protection. But they needed the material of sand and gravel for construction, so they required to buy and transport the sand from other places to the local area. They planed to use conveying belt or small sand pump for sand unloading, but this method was low in efficiency, the conveying distance was short, the equipment damage time was short, and the cost was high. According to the customers’ requirements and actual measurement of the sand transport ship, the technical team of Tai’an Ocean Pump Co.,Ltd.(referred to as Ocean Pump) recommended horizontal sand pump 350PNS-35 for sand unloading.

On April 10, 2018, Jiaxing customers came to Ocean Pump and proposed construction requirements, the speed of unloading sand should be fast, 6-barrel water guns, and the conveying distance ranged from 600m to 1300m. The engineers of Ocean Pump showed the customers the sand unloading plan, that was, to make a new ship, 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump and 350s44 high pressure water pump were arranged in the ship hull, and the hydraulic operation rod was used to move the high pressure water gun and sand suction hose, then realized the sand unloading work. This method was a sand unloading plan jointly developed by Ocean Pump, and Yancheng and Xinghua Shipyard. It has been successfully promoted and operated for a long time in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the Huangpu River area.

The customer was very appreciative of this scheme, but they worried about this would increase the cost and delay the construction period. They hoped to realize sand unloading on the dock. Through the construction simulation of the work site, the technical department of Ocean Pump proposed a plan to place a horizontal sand pump on the dock and use the artificial hand-held high-pressure water gun to impact the sand. However, there were several important points to be noted in the operation:

1. The height of the horizontal sand pump should not be too high. The vacuum suction head of the sand dredging pump was limited, if the height was too high, the first was to affect the suction and the production cannot be guaranteed. The second was the cavitation phenomenon, this could cause the horizontal sand pump to be worn so fast; the third was to reduce the head, there was air in the sand suction pump body and the pipeline, so that the resistance was increased and the conveying distance was shortened. It was therefore recommended to achieve backflow or parallel water level.
2. If the conditions in the work site were limited, the place of sand pump machine cannot be lower than the water level, the sand suction pump still could run if it was 2-3m higher than the water level, the premise was injecting water into the sand pump body before turning on. There were two ways to inject water. The first was setting a bottom valve on the suction hose of the horizontal sand pump, turning on the sand and slurry pump after injecting water. The disadvantage was that the bottom valve was seriously worn, the inner rubber pad needed to be replaced frequently. The second was using vacuum pump, which could evacuate the sand pump and pipeline, the suction port position was vacuumed, and the liquid was filled with the horizontal sand pump and the suction pipe. The second solution needed to set a gate valve at the exit, which was relatively simple to operate.
3. When equipped with power and pipeline, it was necessary to consider the actual conditions of the working site. The rated power of the 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump was 200kw, but considering the high concentration sand unloading and long discharge distance, the engineer recommended that the motor was 8 poles, 220kw. Either 315mm or 377mm of pipeline was suitable, the customers could select according to their budget.

After the pre-communication, the customer selected the scheme of 350PNS-35 horizontal sand pump with SK-0.2/2.2kw vacuum pump. This type of sand pump was sufficient in stock, so the sand pumping equipment was quickly assembled and delivered to the work site.

Combined Sand Pumps were Delivered to Zambia for Sand Dredging

Combined sand pumps consist of two sets or more sand pump units. One of the sand pump units is used as main sand suction pump, the others are booster pumps. So combined sand pumps can achieve high-concentration suction and long-distance transportation of sediment. On November 15, 2018, the Zambian customer consulted the international business department of Ocean Pump about long distance sand transporting. The working conditions were as follows.

1. The combined sand pumps were mainly used for extracting fine sand without large particles and garbage.
2. The water depth of working area was 2-5m, the maximum extraction depth was 10m, the discharge distance was 2000m, and almost no discharge height.
3. They had 6 inch pipelines, and could make sand dredger according to the size of sand pump units.
4. There was no transformer in local area. But there was a 200kva generator set, output voltage was 400v, the frequency was 50Hz.
5. The sand output was more than 20m³/h.

Selection Process of Combined Sand Pumps

Through the sand source analysis and calculation, the engineers of Ocean Pump concluded that: Under the premise of 120 cubic meters of mixed flow per hour, the pressure of 2000 meters pipelines was 4.93 bar, the head was 49.29m. Our engineers chose NSQ100-35-30 submersible slurry pump equipped with 4kw agitators as main sand dredging pump, and DS125-36 high head slurry pump as booster pump. The sand output of this combined sand pumps could be up to 30m³/h after 2000m of transportation.

6 inch Large Particle Sediment Pump was Delivered to Jiangxi

Submersible Sediment Pump was Used to Extract Mud in Pile Well

Submersible sediment pump is also known as submersible mud pump. Submersible sediment pump is a kind of sand suction pump that is coaxial with the motor and the water pump. The bottom of the submersible sediment pump body is equipped with a stirring impeller, which can stir the deposited sludge to form a turbulent flow and achieve high concentration transportation.
